Signs and Wonders

The Prophet Isaiah said:

Isaiah 8:18KJV
(18) Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

What are these signs and wonders? They are manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Looking through the Bible, we can see numerous signs that there is a God in Heaven. Water came from rocks, the Red Sea split, the walls of Jericho crumbled and the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt. In recent history, Israel became a nation, something which was prophecied centuries earlier.

Jesus’ life provides us with what signs and manifestations should be following us.

Luke 4:17-21 NLT
(17) The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to Him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written:
(18) “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free,
(19) and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come. ”
(20) He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at Him intently.
(21) Then He began to speak to them. “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!”

Healing, prosperity, freedom and life followed Jesus. To those that witnessed them, they were signs and wonders. But signs and wonders did not stop with Jesus. Jesus charged us with the following:

Mark 16:15-18 NLT
(15) And then He told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.
(16) Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.
(17) These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in My name, and they will speak in new languages.
(18) They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”
